To one and all, customers and employees, citizens and immigrants, travelers and community members, women and men of all cultures and creeds, and our kids too, Guidance Residential wishes you a very Happy Eid al-Fitr!
As we break our fasts together in celebration of this month of Ramadan, it’s important we take the time to reflect on why we celebrate, and also how we celebrate. We’ve got some facts and celebratory ideas for you to take away, to use as you celebrate Eid this coming weekend. But we also wanted to provide some insight on why we celebrate, and what these celebrations mean to Guidance. Alongside Eid al-Fitr, this month has been a celebration for Guidance Residential as our 15th Anniversary. Sacrifice, unity, community, goodness: these are all core themes in celebrating the month of Ramadan, and they’re also the reasons that Guidance Residential first set out 15 years ago to create a wholly unique program that would allow not just Muslims, but all people who hold an interest in doing away with interest, a path to homeownership.
Islamic finance has held a special place in the world for centuries. But only recently has it come to the mainstream; this is particularly true in the U.S., one of the most regulated financial markets in the world. Even still, Islamic finance only account for about 2% of global assets. As we reflect on the lessons each of us learned this Ramadan, Guidance renews its dedication to serving those who wish to abide by a more ethical, riba-free way to purchase or refinance your dream home. As our CEO and President, Kal Elsayed, said at our 15th Anniversary Town Hall Celebration, “because of them, we stand.”
As we hope to strive daily to do good deeds for those seeking riba-free home financing, here are some good deeds you can do every day, not just for the month of Ramadan, to help make our world a brighter place.
First, we want to take this moment to thank all the women and men who have shared their Ramadan traditions with us. Guidance Residential has been running a contest on our social media channels, encouraging our followers to share their traditions, such as their favorite iftar meals. Iftar is the meal marking the end of the fast on each day of Ramadan, and we’ve been asking you to post a picture using #RamadanWithGR. Instead of focusing on material goods as a prize for this contest, we’ve worked with Islamic Relief to name winners as the donor of a food package worth up to $75 for those in need. And we’ve already had some great winners!
Here’s one of the winning submissions. Rabiya says, “I love spending Iftaar with family and friends during Ramadan. It’s the time of year where we all get together and in great spirits with one another.” Thank you for sharing your tradition with us, Rabiya! We are still accepting submissions through the end of June. Submit yours today! More details here: bit.ly/RamadanWithGR
Like any holiday, decorations are important! Just like the communities in which we live, Guidance Residential is a diverse bunch of great people of all faiths, from all backgrounds, and of so many cultures. In the spirit of Ramadan, which is the spirit of celebration, unity, and togetherness, we all decorated our office together. It wasn’t much, but we wanted to share with you the tiny things we did to bring a little light to our employees’ days throughout this month.
Lastly, we wanted to leave you with some ideas that will leave your ready to end this holy month of fasting with a beautifully planned and executed Eid al-Fitr celebration for your friends, family, neighbors, and strangers too!
From all of us to all of yours, Eid Mubarak!
